Munttoren Amsterdam is an iconic structure that stands over the city, offering a beautiful view of one of the most historic cities in Europe. The tower has four levels, each of which is decorated with sculptural elements reflecting Amsterdam’s trading past. These include representations of ships, windmills and merchant characters. Today, the Munttoren Amsterdam serves mainly as a tourist destination for visitors looking to take in its grandeur from atop or inside its walls. Despite its age, it remains one of Amsterdam's best-known landmarks and is considered an important part of its identity. As such, it has been designated as a national monument since 1970, making it one of many cultural treasures to be found in this vibrant city.
