Amsterdam Centraal

Amsterdam Centraal is the Dutch capital's main train station and a major tourist destination. Located right in the heart of Amsterdam, it's easy walking distance from most of the city's sights and hotels. The impressive station building was designed by Dutch architect Pierre Cuypers and completed in 1884. Let's explore all that this iconic station has to offer!

Architecture and Design

Amsterdam Centraal is an architectural masterpiece. Designed by Pierre Cuypers, a Dutch architect who also designed several other famous landmarks such as the Rijksmuseum, the station features towering twin spires and gabled roofs with intricate details that make it a sight to behold. Inside, you'll find magnificent stained glass windows, soaring ceilings, ornate metalwork, and plenty of other decorative touches that give the station its unique character.

Transportation Options

Of course, Amsterdam Centraal isn't just about architecture; it also serves as a major hub for transportation throughout the city and beyond. There are three tunnels under all of its platforms leading you in two directions: to the Amsterdam Centre side (Centrum) or to the Amsterdam North side. From here, you can easily take international high-speed trains as well as local services connecting you to cities across Europe like Paris, London, Vienna and more. In addition to train service, there are also bus services available at Amsterdam Centraal which can help you get around town quickly if you're short on time or just want to explore more of what Amsterdam has to offer.
